Bandhej

Traditional wear, Saree, Bandhej, Tie & Die.

Also called as Tie & Die,it is one of the most widely used, accepted and traditional style of machine printing in India. This technique is originated from Rajasthan and Gujarat(states of Royal's). The colors that are traditionally used in this process are vibrant with yellow, black, red, maroon and green being the more stylish and predominant ones. This technique is used with lighter shades of browns, turquoise, blue and pink giving a stunning effect and create a good fashionable impression.

Though simple, tie & die is quite time consuming and tedious process because after machine work completed some hand work also done in a process. A single piece of cloth, with intricate bandhej design, takes more than a week to prepare in order to make it wearable. In this process, each section is carefully dipped into paint and tied again to bring yet another contrast in color. Usually the women are assigned to the fine craft of tying while the men prepare the dye.

Elaborate bandhej patterns depicting birds, animals and human figures are made through this long process. The tie and dye (bandhej) work is done on sars, salwar suits, kurtas and dress materials.

On the basis of design and motif, different patterns have their different and special significance. The chandokhni and chikhara are specially designed for brides in merrages and are quite expensive. The barah baag is a pattern, which is when opened looks like a garden of flower. Earlier, there was a design called bavan baag, but today, no one makes it as it takes too much time and labor.

Western and Indian

Western outfits, Traditional outfits, outfits.

For lots of  years, Western designers and global brands like Denim, Gucci, Provogue, Armani, etc have  used Indian craftsmanship, culture and history as  an inspiration for fashion and they really ruled on market, now also they are rulling. From intricate embroidery this season on Marchesa's "Raj and in Charge" dresses for Spring/Summer 2008 to khaki's from Gap, Ralph Lauren and Abercrombie and Fitch that have outfitted generations of Americans, India's influence on global fashion goes all the way from the high-street to the high-end.
Today, India's known dress designer Bandana Tewari, Fashion Features Editor of Vogue India , graciously published an image of the first cover for the newest magazine in Vogue's stable of global fashion magazines, which now number 17 in total it really a good work. From Japan to France to Mexico to Switzerland, Vogue has been the undisputed arbiter of fashion and culture for over 100 years, since its launch in 1892 as a society magazine.
For its Indian debut, Patrick Demarchelier snared Gemma Ward to pose with Indian beauties Bipasha Basu, Priyanka Chopra, Monikangana Dutta, Preity Zinta and Laxmi Menon the Bollywood actresses. The magazine includes contributions from some of Vogue's internationally known contributors including Lucinda Chambers of British Vogue who styled the cover and editorial featuring Gemma Ward. The first issue is being feted tomorrow evening at a launch party at the immense Umaid Bhawan Palace in the Rajasthani city of Jodhpur.
The timing of the launch is no accident. With a long tradition of luxury in India and an estimated $500m domestic luxury market, global brands will now be eager to advertise their wares to India's growing middle class.
Congratulations to Editor Priya Tanna, Bandana and the rest of the team on a phenomenal first issue. Now that Indian fashion has officially arrived, I am looking forward to seeing and hearing the intelligent editorial and images that will communicate the latest in Indian fashion and culture -- not only to India, but to the world.  Finally, India will get credit for its rich history and creative contributions to global fashion. It's long overdue.

These cholis are brightly embroidered, waist-length bare-backed or closed-backed blouses. Lehnga is resembles the gypsy skirt and usually a ceremonial dress of Indian or Pakistani women. Ghagras or lehengas are gathered ankle-length skirts secured around the waist. The attire is completed by a veil-cloth called odhni or dupatta draped across the neck or over the head.

About Fashion

Now a days fashion is become an integral part of our lives.
It's about appearing better than you are, or at least, better than you would otherwise be. There's a fashion industry in pixels just as fickle as the one in clothing.
Women's clothing fashion is a Red-Queen race, a competition of roiling variety, a perpetual treadmill in the quest for making a better impression. What's effective one season, diminishes and is supplanted the next.
